(Port Angeles) -- In non-league action, and making up a rainout, the Chimacum Cowboys slid by the Roughriders in a 9-inning, tie-breaker, 2 to 1.
Stacy Webb lost only her second game of the season as she pitched 9 complete innings, scattering 3 hits with 9 Ks. The Riders are 13 & 5 for the season.
Both teams did not score until the 6th inning when freshman Hannah Wahto blasted a solo homerun over the centerfield fence, tying the game at 1 a piece.
According to softball rules, after the 8th inning there is a "tie-breaker" rule put into effect. The hitter who made the last out is placed at 2nd base. The team at bat has their 3 outs to try and score that runner.
The Cowboys were up first. A runner was placed at 2nd base, moved up by Garing's sacrifice bunt, and scored on a an RBI-single.
The Riders put Chelsea Rambin on 2nd base. Rambin moved up to third on a wild pitch. Molly Ward hit a screaming line drive to the 2nd baseman who quickly threw to third base to force out Rambin. Miranda Pitz followed with a groundout to end the game.
Chimacum plays Sequim on Monday, May 18th while the Riders take on Sequim, Wednesday, May 20th as a non-league tune-up before district play.
