Boat snags line, knocks out internet

September 4th, 2014 - 5:57am

(Port Angeles) A boat snagging a communications line near Bremerton knocked out phone and internet service to thousands of north Olympic Peninsula residents.

It happened about one pm, when the accident severed connections for those using Wave Broadband services.

It meant data, television and phone service for customers using VOIP services were down for for most of the afternoon. Emergency dispatch centers were unable to get 9-1-1 calls from VOIP phones. Landlines and cellphones continued to work. Most of the internet and data services were fully restored by early Wednesday evening.

Also during the day, CenturyLink reported internet outages throughout parts of the west coast, but the outages were believed to be unrelated.
