Investigation finds no wrong doing in treasurer's allegations against county administrator

Port Angeles) – Clallam County's prosecutor is weighing options in a complaint filed by the county treasurer aimed at the county administrator.
The issue stems from a June complaint by treasurer Selinda Barkhuis. Barkhuis submitted paperwork to county commissioners implicating county administrator Jim Jones was, “grossly inadequate” in his explanation of a State Attorney General's opinion that would allow the county to loan money. Although the complaint was brought this summer, the actual incident happened nine months earlier. Jones stands by his opinion, which became moot, when county commissioners decided against the loan idea altogether.
But Barkhuis's allegations opened the door to a criminal misconduct investigation by the Sheriff's Department. That report found no evidence Jones violated any statutes in the performance of his official duties and allegations of criminal conduct were unfounded.
The report has been forwarded to county prosecutor Will Payne for review.
This week county commissioners discussed several options on what to do in this situation, but waiting for an opinion from the county prosecutor will likely influence their next course of action.
Payne said that he will likely render a decision on this matter within seven days.
