3 dead at Deer Park Highway 101 accident

August 3rd, 2005 - 9:15pm

(Port Angeles) -- The State Patrol says vehicular homicide charges could be pending against a driver who crossed the center line of Highway 101 east of Port Angeles, causing an accident that killed 3 men in a pickup yesterday afternoon. Troopers says three vehicles were involved in the crash east of Port Angeles in the Deer Park area. WSP officials say the dead are 45-year old Ian Rolley of Olympia and two 21-year old Port Angeles men -- Jeremy Rolley and Jonathan Brewer. Troopers say an eastbound 1987 Buick LeSabre station wagon driven by Michael John Jones of Port Angeles crossed the double yellow center line -- colliding with Ian Rolley's westbound Ford pickup truck in the westbound lane. Troopers say the impact bent Rolley's driver's side tire, forcing the pickup truck across the center line into the path of a 2005 Freightliner semi-truck with trailer driven by 45-year old Allen Alto of Belfair. Officials say Alto swerved to miss, but the semi rolled over and struck the pickup, coming to rest on top of the vehicle in the eastbound ditch. Alto and his passenger, 28-year old Greg Manning of Port Orchard, complained of neck soreness and were treated and released from Olympic Medical Center. Michael Jones sustained a gash to his left arm and was treated and released at Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles. Two passengers in his station wagon were not injured. Troopers say alcohol was not involved in the accident. All the survivors of the accident were wearing seat belts, but troopers say it's unknown if any of the dead were wearing restraints.
