Communications knocked out by falling tree
September 19th, 2006 - 5:54am
(Port Ludlow) -- A tree is to blame for knocking out virtually all communications on or off the Olympic Peninsula late yesterday afternoon.
The alder tree fell into a fiber optics line used to connect internet, long distance and cell phones off the Olympic Peninsula.
The cut knocked out service for tens of thousands of residents in Clallam and Jefferson counties.
Crews from Qwest were able to get the service restored late last night.
For a time 9-1-1 emergency calls had to be rerouted. The emergency service was still able to operate though.
