Fire burns vacation cabin near Port Angeles

October 30th, 2006 - 10:28am

(Port Angeles) -- Fire District 2 officials say an early Saturday morning blaze destroyed a rural Port Angeles cabin and outbuilding. The damage estimate at the empty vacation cabin on Sandhagen Rd is approximately 10-thousand dollars. Fire District 2 Chief Jon Bugher says a neighbor notified 911 and firefighters found a fully involved structure fire just after 7 Saturday morning. The blaze spread from the 400-square foot cabin to a smaller outbuilding. Bugher says firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading into the nearby woods and neighboring residences. Officials say the structures were owned by Greg Dooley of Port Angeles. The cause of the fire is undetermined. Bugher encourages owners of vacant residences to turn off the power and make a periodic inspection.
