2 youths die from apparent carbon monoxide poisoning

November 28th, 2006 - 5:30pm

(Port Angeles) -- Two sixteen year old boys died Tuesday, apparently overcome by carbon monoxide fumes. The boys were found in a garage at a home off John Jacobs Road during the noon hour Tuesday. The initial investigation indicates that the two boys entered the garage where a gas combustion generator was running and were over come by carbon monoxide fumes. The deaths are suspected to be accidental and a result of carbon monoxide poisoning but confirmation or the results are pending a medical examination and toxicology report. Electricity was knocked out at the house on Sunday when the big storm hit. Names of the two boys have not been released yet, pending notification of relatives. The Clallam County Sheriff's Department urges those people who are using internal combustion engines such as portable generators and other heating sources such as propane heaters, radiant heaters, and kerosene heaters to use extreme caution and always place them in a well ventilated area. Carbon monoxide is odorless and colorless and can be extremely deadly.
