Former state rep. using experience in private sector

January 4th, 2007 - 7:42am

(Port Angeles) -- Former State Representative Jim Buck of Joyce is putting his expertise in natural resources issues to a new use. Buck has opened a consulting service for governments and other entities to help solve problems relating from forestry and salmon restoration, to Geo-Hazards and tsunami preparation. The new venture is called Natural Resources Solutions Northwest. Buck served in the House Natural Resource Committee from the mid '90's until his defeat in last November's election. He was Prime Sponsor of both the 1998 Salmon Recovery Act and the 1999 Forest and Fish Act. Buck speculates that his services will be used by state agencies and natural resources based organizations. The need for disaster preparedness was heightened by last month's windstorm in Washington state. However, Buck calls that a "fairly minor event" as compared to the possible effects of a Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake and tsunami off the Washington coast. Buck's presentation on those possible effects from an earthquake here has been shown to more than 50 organizations across the Olympic Peninsula.
