Fluoride foes seek state high court help

February 14th, 2007 - 7:57am

(Port Angeles) -- A group pushing to stop the city of Port Angeles from adding fluoride to the water supply is going to the state Supreme Court. Protect the Peninsula's Future this week asked the state high court to review a Superior Court decision on two intitiatives that sought a public vote on the fluoride issue. A Superior Court judge found the initiatives dealt with administrative rather than legislative issues and that's outside the scope of the city's initiative process. In a prepared statement, Protect the Peninsula's Future's Eloise Kailin says they "vigorously dissent" that decision and want the state Supreme Court of intervene. Last week, the state Court of Appeals upheld a lower court ruling that public water fluoridation is exempt from the state's Environmental Policy Act. That was the thrust of one of proposed initiatives.
