Elk fence plan aired

(Sequim) -- A group trying to come up with solutions to corral the Dungeness Elk herd has come up with fencing plans.
Yesterday, the committee mapped out a route to run a fence and perhaps keep the herd in a section of land south of Highway 101.
The preferred route would run an 8-foot high fence east-west next to Highway 101 from Blyn to Simdars Road. The fence would then jog south to Huffman Heights Road to Happy Valley Road before using the Department of Natural Resources' boundary over to the Dungeness River.
The group plans to make a formal presentation on its fence plan later this month.
This committee and a larger group of elk managers have been meeting for months trying to come up with solutions to controlling the herd. It often wanders into the highway and destroying private property.
