Former sheriff could become new US Marshal

(Port Angeles) -- A former Clallam County lawman could become a federal marshal. Former Clallam County Sheriff Joe Hawe is being considered to become to new United State Marshal for western Washington. Hawe served as Sequim police chief and then went on to become the county sheriff. He held that elected position for more than a dozen years. He resigned from the post in 2003. Hawe is competing with Snohomish County Sheriff Rick Bart and Kirkland Police Chief Stan Aston for the marshal position. Ultimately the president makes the choice, since marshals are appointed by the White House to the positions.
