Storm set to blow into area

October 18th, 2007 - 6:16am

(Port Angeles) - The National Weather Service says the first big storm of the season is blowing into Western Washington with the remnant of the cyclone "Lingling" that has crossed the Pacific. Forecasters have issued a high wind warning for the coast and northwest interior and a wind advisory for the interior lowlands around Puget Sound. The advisory for the Port Angeles and Sequim area goes into effect at 2 pm and will last until 11 tonight. Winds of 30 to 40 miles per hour are forecast for the coast with gusts 20 miles per hour higher. These are capable of knocking down trees and causing power outages. In the lowlands, this afternoon, forecasters expect 20 to 30 miles per hour winds with gusts to 40. Forecasters say while this is a vigorous storm, it will not be a severe as a windstorm that blew through the region last winter, knocking out power for days for many people.
