Power out for thousands of Clallam PUD customers

(Port Angeles) -- Around 17-thousand Clallam County PUD customers are without power after a storm blew through Western Washington with 50 mph and 60 mph winds.

The National Weather Service has canceled the high wind warning for the Puget Sound and northwest Washington.

Winds in the area are expected to subside during the rest of the evening.

PUD officials say the power is off in all areas of the West End of Clallam County due to a downed BPA transmission line.

Authorities say an out of area crews has been dispatched to repair the problem.

The power is also out in various locations west of Port Angeles, including Joyce, East Beach Rd, Laird's Corner, Edgewood Drive, Lower Elwha Road, Old Mill Rd and Doss Rd.

The power is also out east of PA on upper Mount Pleasant Rd, including Henry Boyd Rd and extensions, Deer Park Rd, Township Line Rd, Upper O'Brien Rd, Four Seasons Place and Blue Mountain Rd.

Power outage are also reported in the Sequim area on Blue Mountain Rd, Palo Alto Rd, Taylor Cutoff Rd, Diamond Point and Blyn.

PUD crews are working as quickly as possible repair the outages and no estimate time of repair is available.

City of Port Angeles officials say a tree fell on a power line on F Street at around 3 this morning, knocking out power to about 9-thousand City Light customers.

At 6 a.m. a tree fell at Park and Race Streets.

Teresa Pierce of the City says that power was restored to most homes around 10:30 this morning.

She says crews are still working on scattered outages.

City officials also warn you about driving through puddles of water on the roadways, as it may be deeper than it looks.

The wind advisory extends until 10 p.m. in parts of Eastern Washington, including Spokane.

The National Weather Service reported gusts today at 68 mph at Bellingham, 45 at Burlington, and 41 a Sea-Tac Airport and Olympia.

Among the outages, Puget Sound Energy had 37,000 customers in the dark in nine counties, with Whatcom and Thurston hit the hardest.

The driver of a pickup truck was injured when it was hit by a tree that was blown down this morning near Redmond (on Novelty Hill Road). Then, a King County sheriff's deputy directing traffic at the scene, Bryan Hill, was knocked down by a vehicle and suffered an injured leg.

The storm also brought snow today to Stevens and Snoqualmie passes.
