Strong winds whip area

(Port Angeles) -- Expect a windy day today. The National Weather Service has a High Wind Warning up for our are through this afternoon. As a cold front pushes through the region, the winds are expected to continue to develop out of the west through late this afternoon. We can expect sustained winds to 40 miles an hour in places near the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Gusts could hit 60 miles an hour. The winds are expected to tame somewhat tonight, but it will remain breezy in the region into the weekend. The weather service warns the winds could be strong enough in some areas to knock down trees and limbs and cause power outages.
