(Port Angeles) -- A Port Angeles native has been hired by the Clallam County Superior Court as the new Family Court Commissioner.
Brent Basden will take office on April 1st following the retirement of longtime Court Commissioner Bill Knebes.
Basden is a graduate of Port Angeles High School, Brigham Young University and the J. Reuben Clark Law School at B-Y-U.
Basden has been in private practice in Clallam County since 1994.
He unsuccessfully ran for the new third Superior Court position in Clallam County last fall.
Basden serves on the Pro Bono Lawyers Board of Directors, was the Clallam County Bar Association President in 2006, and has been involved in leadership positions in numerous county organizations.
He's served as a Pro Tem Superior Court Commissioner since 2006.
The Clallam County Family Court Commissioner position focuses on cases involving families -- the area of law that has been the primary focus of Basden's practice.
The Family Court Commissioner will also preside over Clallam County's new Family Therapeutic Court for families involved with cases with the State of Washington Division of Children and Family Services.
It's modeled after the County's successful Drug Court programs.
Basden has been married to his wife Charline for 16 years.
They have seven children.
