Meeting results point to Erickson Park as best place for "Bubble"

March 26th, 2008 - 5:45am

(Port Angeles) -- Sentiment was running high last night at a public forum on the location and use of an inflatable fieldhouse, now often referred to as the "Bubble". And once again, supporters have landed on Erickson Park as the best place to put it. The Port Angeles City Council chamber was packed with mostly supporters of the idea last night. The Bubble was donated and arrived in Port Angeles a few weeks ago. Last night, the pros and cons of various locations for the bubble were outlined. Sites included: Volunteer Park, Webster Park, Lincoln Park, Stevens Middle School, Peninsula College, and some PUD property adjoining the College. The group decided Erickson Field, adjacent to the Skateboard Park, and across from the YMCA would still be the best place. Supporters say the area is big enough, has available parking and the property is used minimally. However, it would be a long process for Friends of the Fieldhouse, as the City has a multitude of requirements to meet, including interviewing any neighbors and property owners within a 300-foot radius of the site; informational forums, and then meeting many requirements from the Parks, Recreation and Beautification Committee. After all of those steps, the permitting process could begin, which would probably take nearly 9-months to complete.
