Girders placed, traffic rolls on Truck Route

April 10th, 2008 - 5:45am

(Port Angeles) -- It's back to normal...relatively...on the Tumwater Truck Route. The Truck Route reopened yesterday afternoon, after being closed for a week. That allowed crews to put huge girders in place for the new 8th Street Bridge that spans the Truck Route. Yesterday, the final five of 25 girders arrived and were put in place. City officials say the whole process went smoothly and now crews will work on further shoring up the girders and begin putting the surface decking on the bridge. Another set of girders is expected to come to town in a couple of months as crews span the eastern 8th Street Bridge over Valley Creek.
