PA Council changes public comment time

(Port Angeles) -- Some Port Angeles City Council concerns about lengthy public comments have prompted a change in the meeting agenda.
This week, the Council voted to set a firm time for public comments near the beginning of the regular meeting at 6 p.m.
Councilman Larry Williams expressed concerns about the difference between public testimony and the public comment time "is beginning to trouble me."
His comments were prompted after the council's usual 15 minute allotment for public comment were ballooned to more than 35 minutes by six speakers, with the last two taking more than 5 minutes each at the end of the period.
Councilwoman Cherie Kidd says she can't imagine a council meeting without public comment.
She expressed appreciation for the speakers and said she enjoyed the comments.
After a council discussion, an ad hoc committee recommended a change to move the public comments from 7 o'clock to the beginning of the meeting, right after the Pledge of Allegiance.
The move passed unanimously.
