PA man wins duck derby

May 19th, 2008 - 5:27am

(Port Angeles) -- Another year's duck derby and another record. The Great Olympic Peninsula Duck Derby swam for the 19th time yesterday at the Nippon mill canal in Port Angeles. More than 36-thousand small rubber ducks were adopted out as part of the fundraiser for the Olympic Medical Center foundation. The number adopted beat last year's record sales by more than a thousand ducks. Werner Beier of Port Angeles had the winning duck and won a new Toyota truck from Wilder Toyota. Daly Richardson's duck came in second to earn two thousand dollars cash and Roger Helgeson won third prize good for 15-hundred dollars cash. The cash prizes were donated by Seven Cedars Casino. Am Den Construction won a thousand dollars in the Very Important Duck race. That race features mostly corporate donors who purchased large duck packages and received a larger rubber duck to float in the preliminary race.
