City picks new deputy police chief

(Port Angeles) -- A new second-in-command for the Port Angeles Police Department. Brian S. Smith has been tabbed from a group of 19 applicants as the new Deputy Chief of Police. That's Port Angeles Police Chief Terry Gallagher. Smith currently serves as a Special Agent in Charge and Chief of Law Enforcement Services with the National Park Service in their Intermountain Region Yellowstone Division. In Port Angeles, the Deputy Police Chief is the number two position in the Police Department with direct responsibility for Patrol, Investigations, Crime Prevention, Records, police volunteers and reserve officers, plus all support services. City officials anticipate Smith will be sworn in as Deputy Chief sometime in August.
