PA city council will talk about manager resignation

July 22nd, 2008 - 5:51am

(Port Angeles) -- A statement is expected today from the Port Angeles city council on the controversy that has led to the city manager's resignation.

The council agreed last week they'd talk publicly about the issues that led to Mark Madsen quitting his job two weeks ago.

Today could be the day, as the council meets in a special session this afternoon to accept Madsen's resignation and formulate a statement about the issue.

Today's session comes a week after more than a dozen people spoke to the council about issues that led to Madsen resigning. Most speaking last week scolded the council for an inability to get along and creating a bad environment in city government.

Three speakers said they thought the city council fallout was a neccessary symptom of change brought when voters placed three new council members on the board last fall.

Madsen says he can no longer lead the city due to problems created by actions of individual city council members. No one has yet named who those council members.

The special session begins this afternoon at 4:30 at city hall.
