City tells state to wait on dioxin tests

(Port Angeles) -- The Port Angeles city council has told the state Department of Ecology it'll have to wait to test for dioxins in parts of the city.
The council this week heard another report on the DOE's testing program as part of the Rayonier mill site clean up efforts.
But, several Council members became concerned that if dioxin is found on a property, that could drastically affect the re-sale ability of that property. Council member Larry Williams, a Realtor, pointed out, that contamination must be disclosed on any
purchase and sale agreement.
DOE plans to study only 5 parcels of city property, but Council member Karen Rogers says the study will have farther-reaching implications.
The Council this week decided to wait for the Department of Ecology's final report on its dioxin study before allowing the DOE to begin studying the individual parcels of city property.
