Local courts get grant money

September 5th, 2008 - 10:19am

(Port Angeles) -- Superior Courts in Clallam and Jefferson counties will soon hire someone to analyze cases in its family and juvenile court.

The counties will use nearly 69-thousand dollars in state money to hire a case management coordinator. That coordinator will asses the need of the family and juvenile courts. Officials say that assessment will become the basis for a family and juvenile court improvement plant.

The counties could stand to get more state grant money after starting proposals outlined in the improvement plan.

The state hopes more counties will follow Clallam County's lead in adopting a unified family court system. Clallam was the first in the state to create such a court in 1990.

If you're interested in applying for the new coordinator position, you should contact the superior court administrator.
