Port fires long-time deputy director
September 22nd, 2008 - 3:08pm
(Port Angeles) -- The Port of Port Angeles fired its Deputy Executive Director, Dave Hagiwara Monday.
The news came following a port board executive session Monday morning. The vote was 2-1 to remove Hagiwara. Port commissioners Jim McEntire and George Schoenfeldt voted in favor saying Hagiwara's position had to be removed due to budget problems.
The port commissioners suspended the hiring and firing duties of staff yesterday and fired Hagiwara directly. His removal is effective immediately.
Hagiwara has served as the number two staff member at the port for more than a decade. He will receive a severance package of over 150-thousand dollars.
Last year, in another surprise move, the Port fired two other long-time employees, Pat Deja and Susan Bauer, citing only "budget cuts" as a reason. They were not replaced, their duties assimilated by current port staff.
