Lockheed, ACTI and PC partner for new training program

June 26th, 2009 - 5:55am

(Port Angeles) -- A local company ramping up for an expansion is partnering with Peninsula College in a training program.

Peninsula College will receive $10,000 to set up the program in cooperation with Angeles Composite Technologies, Inc. (ACTI) in Port Angeles. The money comes from Lockheed Martin Aeronautics as part of a mentorship program between Lockheed and ACTI. ACTI is preparing to more than double its workforce in the next three years as it creates parts for Lockheed's F-35 Strike Fighter.

Peninsula College president Dr. Tom Keegan says the new program has been talked about for a year and will result in training for current and future ACTI employees.

ACTI president and CEO Michael Rauch says part of the mentoring program with Lockheed is transferring its technology down to the smaller ACTI in Port Angeles.

Rauch says the college training program will establish and offer training opportunities to those individuals who wish to pursue a career in Advance Composite Manufacturing.

The training classes are expected to roll out this summer at Peninsula College.
