County may form appeal board for building issues
June 30th, 2009 - 5:53am
(Port Angeles) -- Clallam County commissioners have asked for a
proposal from the permit advisory board to establish
a building code board of appeals.
At Monday's work
session, commissioners heard from Gene Unger, a professional
civil engineer, and a member of the Permit Advisory
Board for Clallam County.
At present, it costs $400-dollars for a citizen to
appeal a decision of the county's Hearing Examiner.
Unger said such appeals are rare, but could
occur more in the future, if a builder, for instance,
felt he could get a more favorable decision from a
panel of experts in the building industry.
Unger said that while there seems to be no conflict
between his group and the county staff, there may be
reluctance to make a change.
County Commissioners will consider a roposal when it is presented by the permit advisory board.
