County extends interim zoning rules

(Port Angeles) -- Interim zoning rules have been extended for some areas of denser development in Clallam County.
County commissioners yesterday agreed to extend the rules for up to another half a year while it continues to develop a permanent solution.
The temporary rules were put in place last year after a state Growth Management Hearings Board ruled some of the county's zoning was invalid. Most of the ruling covers Carlsborg, but it also includes other pocket of areas with denser development throughout the county.
The county has appealed some of the hearings board's decision.
The extension comes less than a week after the county won a legal battle on the hearing's board. On Friday, Clallam County Superior Court Judge Ken Williams reversed the original decision.
But William's ruling could still be appealed to a higher court.
Meantime, the county and Clallam PUD are working on a plan for a sewer system for Carlsborg. Lack of such a system was listed as one of the reasons the Carlsborg Urban Growth Area was ruled as incompliant earlier.
