SPORTS: Prep basketball - Lakes girls eliminate Port Angeles 52-40

(Auburn) -- The Lakes High School Lancers eliminated the Port Angeles Roughriders from the 3A West Central District girls basketball tournament 52-40 Wednesday night at Auburn High School.

The Lancers punched their ticket to the 3A state tournament next week at the Tacoma Dome with the victory after forcing 25 Port Angeles turnovers, 15 in the first half.

The Lancers had a 27-18 advantage at halftime, then forced two consecutive PA turnovers leading to five quick points and a 32-18 lead in the opening minute of the second half.

Lakes led 40-28 at the end of the third quarter.

Jessica Madison was the game-high scorer with 18 points and Skylar Jones chipped in 8.

Roderica Ware led Lakes with 14 and Stevonna Scott had 12.

Port Angeles shot just 17 percent from the two-point range for the game -- 17 percent -- and a woeful 13 for 30 from the free throw line.

The game marked the final Roughrider basketball appearance for seniors Skylar Jones, Elise Reid and Ceci Stevenson.

Port Angeles (40) -- Jessica Madison 18, Skylar Jones 8, Taylyn Jeffers 6, Alison Knowles 3, Kiah Jones 2, Ceci Stevenson 1.

Lakes (52) -- Rodericka Ware 14, Stevonna Scott 12, Tyanna Barton 7, Aubre Mitchell 10, Brit-tani Terry 7.
