Port of PA dealing with stormwater

March 9th, 2010 - 2:26am

(Port Angeles) -- The Port of Port Angeles will continue efforts to comply with state requirements on stormwater runoff.

Yesterday, port commissioners talked more about the Department of Ecology rules as part of a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan. The rules effect the port especially with boat repair and haul out operations. Port Director of Trade and Development, Dave Hagiwara says the port will keep trying to meet the mandates. However, many port officials say it is nearly impossible to meet the requirements with current, available technology. Hagiwara says the port is watching appeals filed by other juristdictions to see if the rules may be amended.

---- In other action, Port Commissioners accepted a grant from the Department of Transportation for Small Community Air Service Development, which will directly benefit Kenmore Airlines.

The grant will keep the airport's only commercial airline operating between Port Angeles and Seattle. The grant totals $482,500, with the Federal government paying $360-thousand, the Port paying $40-thousand in cash, and another $82,500 in kind, much of that as administrative and contract services.

It was also announced that the Interline agreement between Kenmore and Alaska Airlines was officially finalized last week, allowing an e-ticketing system that will allow one transaction allowing Kenmore passengers to fly anywhere Alaska flies. Kenmore officials say it should help their company by making flying to and from Port Angeles easier for out-of-region travelers.
