County to name new public records officer
March 9th, 2010 - 2:28am
(Port Angeles) -- Clallam County will keep a public records officer as an in-house position.
County commissioners today are expected today to appoint the clerk of the board of commissioners to that position.
Until now, the auditor was considered the public records officer.
But after a steep increase in public records requests and efforts to make sure the county complies legally to requests, county officials decided to make a change.
At one point, county commissioners considered hiring an outside position to coordinate all public records request.
But commissioner Mike Chapman tells KONP he was uncomfortable hiring a new person while the county continued to cut back and cut pay for other employees due to the economy.
