Harborworks still working on future of former mill site

(Port Angeles) -- The Port Angeles Harborworks is staying active in the decision process on the Rayonier property.
That's after Rayonier said it wasn't interested in selling the land to the public development authority.
Harborworks Executive Director Jeff Lincoln told the Port Angeles Business Association talks are moving ahead on the future of the property.
"We're continuing to move ahead with negotiations and looking at all the options for the property," said Lincoln.
Lincoln said the state has the money, in the form of a toxics fund, that can, and should be, used for the cleanup of the property.
"This is money collected from a fee on all petroleum products. It's supposed to be used by community throughout the state to assist with clean up of toxic sites," said Linoln. "I think Port Angeles should be eligible to use some of that money, just like any other place in the state."
Lincoln acknowleged it is possible Harborworks could disband in the next month or so depending on factors such as funding, Rayonier's refusal to negotiate, or even a stalemate in which nothing is going to happen.
Harborworks plans a meeting early next week.
