Few show up to talk about city budget woes

July 28th, 2010 - 6:49am

(Port Angeles) -- A sparse crowd showed up for a town hall meeting on the Port Angeles city budget.

The city is trying to get more input from citizens as it heads into drafting the spending plan for next year.

City manager Kent Myers says the city faces a million dollar budget hole next year.

Myers says the city will face some tough decisions, and there will be cuts in some areas. One of the ideas may be to freeze all worker pay next year.

But Myers says feels the people of Port Angeles have a chance to provide their feelings, before those decisions, and cuts, are adopted by the council.

One way to gauge sentiment is a survey sent out in all Port Angeles utility bills.

A little over 600 surveys sent out earlier this summer city services have been returned to City Hall, but Myers said they are hoping for up to 1,000, before the August 16th deadline

Myers says there will be several more budget hearings and meetings between now and when the final budget is adopted, in December.
