Sprint boating still hoped for in Port Angeles

September 7th, 2010 - 6:45am

(East Wenatchee) - Speed boats were racing over the weekend in what just a few weeks earlier had been a wheat field near East Wenatchee.

The sprint boats hit 75 mph in curvy trenches only three-feet deep.

It's a similar track to one that is proposed for west of Port Angeles.

Two-dozen boats sprayed a lot of mud and entertained about 2,000 fans Saturday at the Thunder Swamp sprint boat races.

The new track is one of four in the Northwest for the sport. The United Sprint Boat Association's finals are set for Sept. 18 at Albany, Ore.

Organizers of the Port Angeles track hope to have races here as part of the regional circuit.
