Sequim's new police chief starts

September 8th, 2010 - 5:56am

(Sequim) -- Sequim has a new police chief on the job. Bill Dickinson started as the new top cop for the city yesterday.

The 60-year-old Dickinson was selected from a pool of five finalists for the job last month.

But his hiring came after a tumultuous firing of the former police chief in Sequim.

City manager Steve Burkett told former chief Bob Spinks was to resign by this summer after more than five years on the job.

Burkett says Spinks management style didn't gel with his.

As for Dickinson, he brings a long-list of law enforcement management to the job. He served as chief of police in Tigard, Oregon and was a major in the King County Sheriff's Department. He most recently was a labor and industries investigator for the state before taking the Sequim job.
