Port Angeles college to get four-year degrees

(Port Angeles) -- Peninsula College has been given the go ahead to offer four-year degrees.
The college has been accredited to offer baccalaureate degrees on its own.
In the past, the college has offered some four-year degrees through partnerships with other state universities. It recently graduated its first, independent four-year degree class in business management under a pilot program.
But Peninsula College president Dr. Tom Keegan says, now Peninsula can develop its own programs and put together degree offerings.
Keegan says it doesn't mean Peninsula College will change from its mission as a community college.
Keegan says community need would drive which four-year programs the college may offer. He says it would take about a year to put together a program. Every four-year degree program would also have to be approved by the state.
