Study shows problems with Port Angeles stadium

(Port Angeles) -- The city of Port Angeles has received a consultant's study on Civic Field.
And city officials say a first look at the bullet points shows the facility may have some potential safety issues.
Although the entire report has not been released to the public yet, city manager Kent Myers says it shows the aging stadium and field have some problems that need addressing. Specifically, there are issues with the turf, lighting and possibly the stability of the lighting structures.
"We don't want to alarm the users of the field," Myers told Newsradio 1450 KONP. "But we will have to take a closer look at things such as the lighting structures to make sure they are safe in the long run."
The city's Parks and Recreation Commission will get a full presentation on the report next week. The city council will get a similar presentation later this month as well.
Myers said there won't be enough money to tackle all of the improvements outlined at once, but he expects the city council may want to look at the safety issues first and do improvements in phases.
In April, the city council authorized spending 30-thousand dollars to hire a consultant to look at the field surface and facilities at Civic Field.
