Clallam PUD ready for severe weather, outages

January 18th, 2012 - 5:34am

(Port Angeles) -- Clallam PUD says it has crews at the ready for what could be a potentially tough time for the utility during the storm.

PUD general manager Doug Nass says the heavy snow can cause a lot of outages as branches break and fall into lines, and in some cases the snow can cause strain on transmission lines. And high winds only add to the problem.

Nass says crews are equipped to handle the bad weather. He also says new monitoring system the utility uses is making is easier to respond quickly to outages.

Nass says customers who lose power should call the PUD and not wait. He says the system uses those calls to help pinpoint problems.

The bad weather knocked out power yesterday in the west end of Clallam County.
