Murder suspect kills self during police standoff

February 22nd, 2012 - 12:18pm

(Port Angeles) -- A man wanted in connection with two homicides in Clallam County apparently killed himself during a standoff with police today in Port Angeles.

45-year-old John Loring was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at about noon today at an apartment complex at 16th and "N" streets.

Officers had surrounded the apartment complex this morning where Loring had been located.

A State Patrol SWAT team began talking with Loring soon after arriving. Those talks apparently broke off by mid morning and police fired tear gas into the apartment. Shots were also reported at the scene by late morning.

Residents of the apartment complex were evacuated earlier.

Loring was suspected of shooting 19-year-old David Randle on Tuesday morning at a home at Woodcock Road and Andrew Myers Lane in Sequim. Loring also is suspected in the death of a 65-year-old man whose body was found Tuesday afternoon.

He had eluded police all day Tuesday. Clallam County sheriff Bill Benedict tells KONP authorities gathered intelligence late last night that lead them to Loring at the apartment complex this morning.
