Grant could help build composites facility in Sequim

June 26th, 2012 - 7:10am

(Sequim) -- A grant from the Department of Energy may pave the way for a new composites manufacturing facility east of Sequim, at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory's Sequim marine research operations on Sequim Bay.

The grant, $50-million dollars, for a 5-year period, is expected to be approved soon.

The proposal for the composites plant came from the Port of Port Angeles, at a joint meeting of port commissioners and the Sequim city council, at the John Wayne Marina.

The Port also called for more space for composites manufacturing at the Port's Industrial Park at Fairchild Airport, where Angeles Composites Technologies Incorporated, has a facility. Also attending the meeting Monday were about 30 other people representing local and private interests.
