Blame it on the sun...multiple crashes snarl traffic
October 5th, 2012 - 6:02am
(Port Angeles) -- Bright, sunny weather may have contributed to a series of accidents along Highway 101 east of Port Angeles.
Four separate accidents occurred in a one-mile stretch of highway between Baker Street and Leighland Avenue. All of the accidents happened within an hour.
Witnesses report the sun was shining in drivers' eyes at the time of the crashes about eight yesterday morning.
Three people were taken to the hospital, but mostly had minor injuries.
In one of the accidents, a car ran a red light, apparently unable to see the signal because of the sun. In another, a semi truck slammed into the back of a car that had slowed for traffic causing a chain reaction with two more vehicles.
All the of the accidents occurred with vehicles heading eastbound into the sun.
The crashes backed up morning traffic for more than an hour on the highway.
