New pedestrian crossing for Marine Drive in Port Angeles?

(Port Angeles) -- The Port Angeles City Council is concerned about the
safety of pedestrians crossing Marine Drive at Tumwater Street.
The problem peaks during shift changes at Platypus, Westport, and other big industries on the north side of Marine Drive.
So, the city is looking at perhaps building and overpass or underpass in the area.
At a city council meeting this week, the city's community and economic development director Nathan West talked about the issue.
"Our first priority is finding a way to ensure the safest possible crossing for those in the area," said West.
It was pointed out at the meeting that many pedestrians pay no attention to a crosswalk in the area, and cross whenever they can dodge a car or truck. West says a new crossing might make it easier for pedestrians to use, and a new crossing could be placed in a more idea location for the employees to use.
The businesses there are moving parking from the the north side of Marine Drive to the south side.
