Big downtown Port Angeles waterfront project starts

October 8th, 2012 - 6:28am

(Port Angeles) -- The city of Port Angeles begins a major upgrade of the downtown waterfront.

Phase one of the project to build an esplanade along Railroad Avenue will break ground today.

Primo Construction of Carlsborg is doing the work.

Officials say during the first phase of construction, Railroad Avenue will be closed from west of the Coho Ferry Dock to Oak Street. Traffic will be routed around the construction zone with a detour through the Railroad Avenue-Front Street alley way.

The first phase of construction is planned to continue through the end of the year.

The city also plans to put up detailed signs to help keep customers aware that downtown businesses are still open and accessible.
