(Seattle) -- Sequim resident Tom Schaafsma is recovering in Seattle after a tractor rolled on top of him.
Schaafsma was working with the tractor Friday, when the equipment rolled. He was trapped and was unable to breathe for some time.
Friends tell KONP, his son was able to get the tractor off his father and perform CPR.
The elder Schaafsma was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center where he was placed on a ventilator. He suffered ten broken ribs and was able to breathe on his own over the weekend.
According to his family, he was showing some signs of progress yesterday. Family members say doctors don't know yet the extent of any brain damage that may have occurred due to a lack of oxygen.
Schaafsma is a long-time local Rotary Club member and is a past winner of the Clallam County Community Service Award and the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year.
He has also travelled the world helping Rotary respond to disasters.
