Air agency meets in Sequim

October 15th, 2012 - 6:42am

(Sequim) -- The agency tasked with air quality meets in Sequim this evening.

The Olympic Region Clean Air Agency board meets at the Sequim Transit Center beginning at 5 pm.

Among the items, the board could decide whether to buy more air monitoring devices to place around the Port Angeles-Sequim area. The board is taking up the matter after hearing concerns from residents and some elected officials about possible contaminates that could come from a new biomass plant under construction at Nippon Paper's Port Angeles mill.

The agency has said in the past it doesn't have the budget to purchase additional monitors.

ORCAA has already given the permits for the biomass plant to go online next year.
