Three local paramedics to assist east coast storm victims

(Sequim) - Three paramedics from Clallam County Fire District Three are heading to the east coast to help with recovery from superstorm Sandy.

They'll join doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers as part of a disaster medical team. Captains Chris Turner and Bryan Swanberg along with firefighter James Brown are part of Washington Disaster Medical Assistance Team that has been dispatched to provide assistance.

The team based in Seattle and is part the National Disaster Medical System.

The three local paramedics could spend the next 14 days in the New York or New Jersey area providing assistance.

Fire District officials say these deployments provide valuable experience that can be used on the Olympic Peninsula.
