City proposes increases in Medic One tax

November 21st, 2012 - 5:45am

(Port Angeles) -- It may cost more for emergency medical response in the city of Port Angeles next year.

The city is proposing an 8 percent adjustment to the Medic One utility rates for 2013, followed by a 6 percent hike in 2014.

That 8% increase would amount to a 38-cent monthly increase for residential rates, and the 6 percent hike would come to 31-cents a month.

The city says several factors are contributing to the need for more revenue. Fire department officials say they face higher operating costs coupled with a decrease in the amount of revenue coming into Medic One.

Most of the revenue decrease is attributed to bad debt as people can't pay all the charges.

The city council will make a final decision on the proposed rate hikes December 4th.
