Unemployment rate slips to lowest rate in four years

November 21st, 2012 - 5:47am

(Port Angeles) -- Unemployment rates in Clallam County have fallen to the lowest level since the "Great Recession" began in 2008.

According to figures from the state, Clallam County's unemployment rate in October was at 8.7 percent. That's down two tenths of a percent from September.

But the Olympic Peninsula's regional economist with the state employment Security Department, Elizabeth Court, says this is the lowest rate in four years.

Court says the figures still show many people in Clallam County are commuting to jobs outside the county. The number of local jobs created has retracted a bit.

Last October, Clallam's Unemployment rate was at 9.2 percent. Statewide, the unemployment rate stood at 7.2 percent.
