Pool district won't raise property taxes

November 30th, 2012 - 5:45am

(Port Angeles) -- The William Shore Memorial Pool District will not raise its property tax levy next year.

The district's board this week approved the 2013 budget. It calls for no increase in the levy amount, which is $465,000.

District executive director Steve Burke says 2013 will be the 4th consecutive year that the district has maintained or reduced the levy amount needed for the operation and maintenance of the William Shore Pool.

Burke says the district has also chosen not to take the annual 1% increase allowed by law for taxing districts.

Burke says the pool performed over $480,000 in energy efficiency capital improvements in 2012 and will be spending approximately $800,000 in additional energy efficiency improvements next year. He says it all is saving the pool a lot of money in the long run by getting rid of inefficient, 50-year-old equipment.

By mid 2013 all of the old mechanical systems for the pool will be upgraded or replaced with new energy efficient systems saving the district money on energy and maintenance.
