PREP BASKETBALL: Olympic boys 49, Sequim 46
December 4th, 2012 - 11:59pm
(Silverdale) -- Brian Tyson's 3-pointer with 37 seconds left restored the lead for Olympic as the Trojans
earned a hard fought 49-46 Olympic League boys basketball victory over the Sequim High Wolves Tuesday night.
A tremendous fourth quarter Sequim comeback went for naught as the Trojans improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0
in circuit play.
The Wolves, now 1-2 overall and 1-1 in league action, trailed 44-33 with 6 minutes left and rallied for a
13-0 run, taking a 46-44 advantage on Rory Kallappa's layup with 2:15 remaining.
The Wolves, however, were unable to extend the lead on two consecutive possessions heading into the final minute, setting up Tyson's go-ahead triple that made it 47-46 Trojans.
Olympic's Quentin Phillips dropped a pair of free throws with 22 seconds to go and completed the scoring 49-46.
Sequim held Phillips to 15 points, nine under his season average.
The game was a nip and tuck affair featuring seven ties and 12 lead changes with a 9-all deadlock at the first buzzer.
Olympic used its speed and athleticism to jump the Wolves on the press at several key times during the contest
to push the advantage.
A 7-1 Trojans run late in the first half gave the hosts a 24-18 lead, but Sequim answered and trailed by
just one at intermission 24-23.
In the third quarter, Olympic used another 7-0 streak over the final 1:17 and led 41-33 going to the final period.
Gabe Carter led the Wolves with 18, Kallappa had 11 and Jayson Brocklesby added 10.
Tyson paced Olympic with 9, all 3 of his hoops from beyond the arc.
Kyle Setten scored 6 of his 8 points for the Trojans in the third quarter.
Sequim is idle Friday and awaits Kingston Monday night at Rick Kaps Gym.
Meantime, the Trojans visit Port Townsend Friday night.
