No flu "outbreak" in Clallam County yet
December 7th, 2012 - 8:19am
(Port Angeles) -- Federal health officials say the flu season is starting early this year.
But Clallam County's health officer says, so far, the local area has not reached an outbreak level yet.
Dr. Tom Locke says there are more cases being reported locally, but not like parts of the southern United States where there has been a spike in flu.
Locke says he expects the number of flu cases to increase in our area soon. He says a flu shot is the best way to prevent the flu. He says it's not too late.
Locke says this year's vaccination is well matched with the influenza strains that are appearing elsewhere and should be effective.
Meantime, Locke was honored this week for his 25 years of service as the county's health officer.
A number of dignataries showered Locke with praise during a ceremony earlier this week.
Locke says he plans to stay on as the top public health official for the county.
